Before Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal tied the knot in June, there were rumours that veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha was not happy with his daughter’s inter-faith marriage. Her brother Luv Sinha‘s absence also fueled more speculations. Recently, Sonakshi opened up about her first conversation with Shatrughan Sinha about her marriage. She shared that she sought her father’s approval before making the decision, clearing up any rumours of disagreements between them before the wedding.
In an interview with Galatta Plus, Sonakshi admitted she was anxious about bringing up the subject. Zaheer even offered to speak to Shatrughan Sinha on her behalf, but Sonakshi ultimately found the courage to approach her father herself.
She recalled, “I went up to him and I sat down with him. I know my dad appreciates humour, so I tried to take a very different approach. I sat with full confidence and asked, ‘Kya aapko chinta nahi kya, beti ki shaadi nahi ho rahi? Aapko parwa nahi hai?’(Are you not worried that your daughter isn’t getting married) So I went with that approach. He said, ‘Of course hai, main mummy se puchta rehta hoon. Kyun kya hua?’(I keep asking your mother. Why what happened). I said ‘Mujhe shaadi karni hai’(I want to get married).”
Shatrughan Sinha offered to help find someone for her, to which Sonakshi replied, “Nahi, dhund liya” (No, I have found someone).

She continued, “Then I told him about Zaheer – that we’ve been together for so long, he makes me very, very happy and he’s my best friend. I had a very lovely chat with my dad. In your head, you make it (the situation) up and make it difficult, but it was actually so easy. And the best thing my dad told me after the conversation was, ‘You are grown adults, you love each other, toh miyan biwi raazi toh kya karega kaazi?(when you guys are ok, everything is fine). Go for it.’ It was literally that simple. Once that happened, we knew this was it, we don’t need anything else in the world.”

Sonakshi and Zaheer were married on June 23 in an intimate ceremony attended by their families and close friends. They also hosted a reception the same day, which was attended by several film industry stars.
