Ryan Reynolds wanted K-Pop band Stray Kids to appear in ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’; reveals Hollywood strikes made it ‘logistically impossible’ |

Marvel Entertainment unveiled the tracklist for the ‘Deadpool and Wolverine‘ soundtrack on Wednesday, and there among the highlights was a song by Stray Kids. The popular eight-member K-pop supergroup will contribute a new song titled ‘Slash’ to the soundtrack. Interestingly, if actor and producer Ryan Reynolds had his way, the boy band would have even made a special appearance in the film.
At the global press conference attended by ETimes, Ryan shared his fondness for the band, saying, “I’ve known them now a little bit better, but I’ve known them for years.” He went on to reveal how he first came to know of the band, saying, “Years ago, the Stray Kids did a Deadpool-inspired music video, which I saw, and which I thought was phenomenal. Then I reached out to one of the members, and he and I kind of became fast digital friends, and now we’ve met in person. So yeah, that was it.”

In 2021, Stray Kids competed and won in the Korean music reality show ‘Kingdom: Legendary War’. The group performed an impressive mashup of their hit song ‘God’s Menu’ and Blackpink’s ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’, with member Felix kicking off the performance dressed as Deadpool, delivering a cheeky monologue reminiscent of Reynolds’ character.

Ryan also revealed that he had discussions with the team to get the boys in the film. He said, “The initial plan was to have them appear in the film, but it was just the strike happening in the middle and some other issues, and just making it logistically impossible. And I just will never forget the look on our line producer’s face when I said that there are eight of them.”

Director Shawn Levy went on to explain the film’s unique soundtrack featuring hits from

NSYNC, Madonna, Fergie, The Goo Goo Dolls and others. He shared, “A Deadpool soundtrack is always unique. It’s something that is so Ryan-based. His taste is all over the place, and Deadpool movies always have a soundtrack that makes no sense on paper because it’s so diverse and disparate, but it just feels right in the room. And the soundtrack to this one, which includes our track from Stray Kids, is no different.”
The soundtrack also features a song from Hugh Jackman himself. ‘The Greatest Show’, from Jackman’s 2017 movie by the same name, is among the 18 songs on the soundtrack. How it will be incorporated into the film remains unclear.
Set to hit theatres on July 26, the film marks a significant return for Reynolds as Deadpool, and Jackman, reprising his iconic role as Wolverine from the X-Men franchise. The star-studded cast also includes Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova and Matthew Macfadyen as Paradox.
