Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis urged the makers of Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava to balance sensitivity and creativity, responding to recent controversies. He also advised the producers to avoid distorting history in the film.
Maharashtra Chief Minister told India TV the importance of accurately portraying the history of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, stressing that distorting history is inappropriate. He noted the deep respect people have for Sambhaji Maharaj and urged filmmakers to ensure their creativity is balanced with sensitivity.
This follows Maharashtra minister Uday Samant‘s recent comments, where he expressed disappointment with a scene in Vicky Kaushal’s upcoming movie. He objected to the portrayal of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj dancing and called for the scene to be removed.Samant threatened to block the film’s release, stating that if objections are raised, it would not be allowed to be released. Following the controversy, the film’s director Laxman Uttekar met Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Raj Thackeray and assured him that any objectionable scenes from the Vicky Kaushal starrer would be removed before its release.
Chhaava is a historical drama based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Vicky Kaushal plays the role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji, the eldest son of the Maratha empire’s founder. The film also features Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna, Ashutosh Rana, and Divya Dutta in prominent roles.
Chhaava will hit theatres on February 14, 2025.
