Kajol, who has delivered some iconic films like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Gupt, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, recently opened up about taking long breaks in her career and how, despite coming from a renowned film family, she has carved out her legacy through her own work.
During a conversation with The Indian Express, Kajol reflected on her journey and humorously described herself as the “laziest person,” saying, “If you see my filmography, I am probably the least worked actor. My mom (veteran actor Tanuja) and grandmom (the late director and actor Shobhna Samarth) always told me that work is a part of your life, not your whole life. I did take breaks. I wanted to get married and have kids. Thankfully, I am still working and I’m still relevant.” She joked, “I am thankful to everyone for having a good taste so far.”
Kajol also addressed the perception of being part of an illustrious film family, explaining that her success is built on her own efforts rather than her lineage. “It isn’t about legacy. It is every woman’s work. Nargis, Sharmila Tagore had no legacy. What I am today isn’t because of my lineage. It is the legacy of every woman who has worked,” she emphasized, adding that her ability to take breaks in her career was rooted in her body of work, not the privilege of her family background.

“Every woman has to take a call that now I will take a break and if I want to come back, I will come back and she will be able to do that if she wants to,” she said.
Kajol will be seen playing a cop for the first time in Do Patti. This marks her second collaboration with Kriti Sanon, following their successful partnership in Rohit Shetty’s Dilwale, which featured Shah Rukh Khan and Varun Dhawan as co-stars.
Looking ahead, Kajol has a dynamic slate of projects. She will star in Kayoze Irani’s Sarzameen alongside Ibrahim Ali Khan, son of Saif Ali Khan. Additionally, she will take on the titular role in Maharagni – Queen of Queens, directed by Charan Tej Uppalapati, where she will share the screen with Prabhu Deva, Naseeruddin Shah, Samyuktha Menon, and Jisshu Sengupta. Kajol will also appear in Vishal Furia’s Maa.
