George R.R. Martin praises ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ spinoff after criticising ‘House of the Dragon’

The famous author of the novel series A Song of Ice and Fire, George R.R. Martin, has come forward with full enthusiasm in support of HBO’s next spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, set to air in 2025. This is quite a very different reaction by George R.R Martin to the sequel series, compared to his various complaints over the prequel series House of the Dragon to the hit Game of Thrones television series.
According to Pinkvilla, George R.R Martin recently had some very nice things to say about the spinoff series based on his novellas, which concern the titular characters of Dunk and Egg. “I visited the set in Northern Ireland in July and loved what I saw,” George said. “The cast is fantastic. Dunk and Egg look as if they’ve walked out of the pages of my book. My readers are going to love them, and I certainly do. Showrunner Ira Parker is doing a great job,” he added.
This flies in the face of the thorough criticism George R.R Martin gave to House of the Dragon a while back. In a now-deleted blog post, Martin expressed his great dissatisfaction with certain creative decisions, involving Prince Maelor Targaryen. Maelor was in consideration to appear in the prequel but his part was eventually cut, something which George R.R Martin at the time said would have an effect on the final two seasons of the show. In particular, the author’s concerns dealt with how these creative decisions would affect the overall direction taken by the show.
The creators of House of the Dragon explain the criticism from the creator by saying that all adaptations have to be worked upon for the screen and television and what the people want to see. So, they made those changes to create a proper storyline with intrigue.
