Shah Rukh Khan‘s starrer ‘Baazigar’ (1993) became one of the most celebrated films in Bollywood, with fans loving King Khan’s portrayal of a villain in the film. However, once again, comparisons between the film and a Hollywood movie have surfaced online, where fans have expressed disappointment regarding the Shah Rukh starrer. Reddit users have been sharing a meme featuring Matt Dillon’s ‘A Kiss Before Dying‘ ( 1991) and Baazigar, claiming that the films share the same story and scenes.

‘Baazigar’, directed by the duo Abbas-Mustan, featured two sisters, Kajol and Shilpa Shetty, and the men in their lives. It appears that the movie is an unofficial remake of ‘A Kiss Before Dying’. However, netizens could not believe that their favourite SRK film is a remake. One user commented, “My biggest nightmare is one day someone will come and tell me that Sholay was a remake.” Another added, “Frame by frame copy hai bhai… hamara bachpan jhootha nikla.” Finally, one user reacted, “Even the dialogues were copied; apart from the clothes, nothing was original in Baazigar.”
In an old interview, the celebrated filmmaking duo Abbas-Mustan opened up about the casting process for ‘Baazigar’. Initially, they approached Anil Kapoor for the lead role, but the actor declined, citing concerns about the risk involved in a hero playing a villain. The duo then turned to Salman Khan, who, at the time, was focused on family-oriented films. However, Salman’s father, Salim Khan, rejected the role, reasoning that it was too soon for Salman to experiment with such a complex character. Ultimately, the filmmakers pitched the story to Shah Rukh, who received the narration from them, paving the way for his iconic portrayal.
During the narration, Shah Rukh chose to sit on the ground while the filmmakers were seated on a couch. Once the narration concluded, he stood up, embraced them, and expressed his admiration for the storyline.
