During the shoot of Parinda, there were several reports of clashes between Nana Patekar and the film’s director Vidhu Vinod Chopra. After these incidents, Vidhu understood how to work with Nana firmly. One of their confrontations resulted in an extraordinary scene in the film. Besides Nana, the film also starred Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, and Jackie Shroff.
Addressing this controversy, Nana told The Lallantop that he does not like Vidhu at all. He explained, “I cannot control my anger. I couldn’t before, and I still can’t. What happens is that every scene has a tone. When we talk or say something, it has a tone. Every context has a tone. We know where we started from. Let us stay there. We grasp the notes of each scene. Let us stick to the tone.”
Nana further said that Vidhu has some nonsense habits. He wants to say all this in front of Vidhu, not behind his back. Nana said, “Whenever we meet, I feel like this will be the last time.”

Nana mentioned that he never worked with Anil Sharma of Gadar fame. He said, “Anil sets up scenes very well. He told me that he couldn’t teach me acting. So I said, just set up the camera. We know the character; let us do it our way.” Nana stated that dragging a scene unnecessarily is not right.
In 1996, Nana Patekar starred in a film called Khamoshi. This film featured Salman Khan, Manisha Koirala, and Seema Biswas alongside Nana. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, in this film, Nana and Seema’s characters were mute and deaf. Nana shared an incident from this film where he had a fight with Sanjay Leela Bhansali over a scene.
Nana explained, “Seema Biswas’s character, my wife, has a heart attack. Both of us are mute, and she is behind me. I am playing cards. I don’t know what is happening behind me. Now, Sanjay wanted me to look back. He said that she is my wife, and we have a non-verbal connection. I should feel from within that something is happening behind me, so I should turn around. But I needed a reason to turn back. I asked him why should I turn back when I don’t know what’s happening.”
This scene led to a heated argument between Nana and Sanjay. He added, “Although Sanjay did not work with me after that film, I might have said too much. I believe our relationship should not just be for work. There should be a relationship even beyond work. Whether we work together or not. Films come, run, and flop. But memories stay with us.”
Nana Patekar also said that Sanjay Leela Bhansali is a good director, but he cannot control his anger.
