Ravi Kishan opens up about his troubled relationship with father: ‘He wanted to kill me and my mother was aware’ | Hindi Movie News

Bollywood and Bhojpuri superstar Ravi Kishan, who is currently basking in appreciation for his role in the Kiran Rao directorial Laapataa Ladies, recently revealed details about his tumultuous relationship with his father. He shared how his father initially disapproved of his passion for performing arts, which led to a strained dynamic between them.
Recalling his early days, Ravi told Brut that his father was shocked when he started performing in the neighborhood Ramleela and would often punish him for it. This discord escalated to the point where Ravi had to leave home at the age of 17 due to his father’s anger and physical abuse.
“My father was beating me very badly and he was hammering me. He wanted to kill me and my mother was aware that her husband is capable of killing me and he will not hesitate because priests have less emotions. So she said ‘bhaag jao.’” Ravi explained, recounting that he escaped with just Rs 500 in his pocket and boarded a train to Mumbai.

Despite the challenges, Ravi justified his father’s strictness, acknowledging that his father, being a Brahmin priest, had certain expectations for his son’s career path. “He never thought an artist could be born in his family,” Ravi remarked. He viewed every beating from his father as a life lesson that shaped him into the person he is today.

As Ravi Kishan’s career flourished and he achieved success in the entertainment industry, his father’s perspective shifted. Towards the end of his life, his father had tears in his eyes as he expressed pride and happiness in Ravi’s accomplishments and said, ‘tum humare gaurav ho (you are our pride).’ “I was very clear from my childhood that I didn’t want an unknown death. Everyone is born with a reason and my reason made me ‘Ravi Kishan,” he said.
On the work front, Kishan was also seen in Maamla Legal Hai, apart from Laapataa Ladies.
